The Required Amount

Both cremation ashes and hair can be turned into memorial diamonds. The required amounts of hair or cremation ashes from the deceased, regardless of the diamond size:

Note:

1. ‘Cremated bones’ means large pieces of bones (larger than 20 mm) that remain after the cremation process, which contains relatively less carbon compared with powdery cremated ashes (normally around 1-5 mm).
2. Combined carbon source is accepted, e.g. 5 grammes hair plus 100 grammes ashes.
3. The colour and type of hair, and artificial hair dye does not affect the diamond colour because all pigments are removed during purification in the ashes to diamonds process.
4. The above amounts are fixed and needed regardless of the diamond size that has been ordered because the diamond synthesis equipment requires a standardised amount of carbon to turn cremation ashes or hair into diamonds. Size of the cremation diamond is only affected by the given growing time.
5. The amounts listed above are required for up to three diamonds out of ashes. The amount necessary to turn ashes to over three diamonds in the process depends on the diamond sizes ordered. Please contact us for more information.

Q & A:

1. How to weigh the ashes?

A standard culinary scale can be used to weigh the ashes/hair. The required volume is the equivalent to 2/3 cup of hair or 1 cup of ashes. You will receive measuring jars as a part of our ashes submission kit after your order is confirmed. Make sure to fill the container up to the volume mark indicated.

2. How to send you the ashes/hair safely?

First use a zip-lock pack to seal the ashes/hair completely. Then, pack the zip-locked ashes/hair in a sealed box. You will receive sealing tape and zip-lock bags as a part of our ashes submission kit after your order is confirmed.

Extra Backup

Commonly, the carbon content in hair and cremation ashes varies greatly from family to family. As the process is irreversible, we need each family to also supply 0.4 oz / 10 g of supplement hair as a backup.

1. May I provide extra hair or ashes?

Yes, supplemental amounts are accepted to turn ashes into diamonds.

You may also provide all the ashes for what we call a Diamond Burial.

In such a case, please tell us about your situation so that we can supply you with enough containers and sealing packages.

2. May I provide less hair or ashes?

Yes, we are more than happy to work with you to create a solution that is most suitable for you and your family.

We have worked to turn ashes into diamonds in the tragic case of the death of an infant. We also face this situation with the order of multiple diamonds for large family. You may choose not to send us all the cremation ashes for personal reasons.

If you simply do not have enough cremation ashes or hair from the deceased, family members can provide supplemental hair amounts. There are no extra charges or fees for mixed carbon sources.

3. What happens if there are leftover ashes or hair of my loved one?

The carbon content in ashes and hair vary individually. In certain countries, we have found the carbon content is distinctly lower because of the higher temperature and higher oxygen levels used in their local cremation process. As a result, to ensure the diamond comes solely from the ashes or hair you provide, LONITÉ will ask you to provide more than needed.

All materials (ashes or hair) are processed and purified in the initial steps. The remaining carbon, in graphite powder form, will be kept for a pre-set period of time as part of our risk control protocol. After this pre-set period of time, any remaining carbon will be individually cremated in a mini furnace. We are able to then return the remaining carbon to your family if requested when you place your order.
